According to an MSNBC article, Wal-mart is set to cut prices on more than 16,000 items in their stores to kick off the back to school buying season.
How is such a huge company able to cut so many prices at one time, especially during what is considered to be a normally busy buying season?
Well my guess is good management and cost control.
Wal-Mart has been one of the premier American companies for many years now and continues to be year after year.
With good management and controlling cost, your company can pass on savings to your customers as well.
Now you’ll often hear how Wal-Mart exploits it’s employees and how they import their goods from outside of the country, when you deal in the commodities that Wal-Mart deals in you have to be able to control your costs in order to stay a viable company.
Look at the trouble Ford and GM are in because of poor cost control from the past. Their in deep trouble now because of no restraint in spending.
Think back to the companies who were in Wal-Mart’s industry; Bradlees, Two Guys, K-Mart (Hanging on by a tread) and the countless others who have fallen to the wayside.
Only time will tell if Wal-Mart has the staying power of Sears or JC Penneys both of who have their problems as well.
It’s also a shame that even with the emphasis on low prices, people still like to shoplift at this store as this MSNBC article explores.
Which also makes our prices go up as well.
I don’t know we seem to be caught between a rock and a hard place.
We want high wages, low prices and sticky fingers.
Well my hats off to Wal-Mart for their ability to control cost in a manner that provides a good value to it’s customers. Every time I go into a Wal-Mart it’s registers are packed with people handing over their money for the goods that they provide. So it seems to be working.
