I just got done reading an article on MSNBC called “Is ‘Made in China’ avoidable?” , and it got me to thinking about why does it seem to be more economically sound for a company to import goods to the US to sell and market to the American public.

Granted, based on all the stories I’ve read, the wage structure in China seems to a lot lower than in the US and it seems that, again based on the stories that they exploit their workers as well.

With all that being said, how is it still possible to get goods across our borders from another country and still be a better value than goods that are produced in the US.  I don’t know the answer to this but it does poise a good question.

Walmart, the biggest retailer in the US, buys a lot of goods from China and their business doesn’t seem to be hurt by this. If it were such a pressing issue in the US, then wouldn’t their share of business start to go to business that only sell products made in USA? That also makes me think.

This thought process then lead me to start thinking about the hot issue of Immigration, and obviously this certainly effects different states in different ways. I’m sure it effects California and Texas in different ways then say Idaho or North Dakota.

But this made me think about Immigration in a different way, with all the stories about how bad the US is, why is that we have an immigration problem and that our bordering countries don’t?

Why isn’t Mexico building fences to keep all the unhappy US citizens from storming their borders? or Canada?

The only thing I could come up with is that the US, even with all it’s problems, is still the land of opportunity. The country you can go from being dirt poor to a millionaire, if you provide a product or service that someone is willing to pay for.

And the more people that are willing to pay for your product or service the faster you get rich.

Which then leads me back to Wal Mart, the reason why they are so successful is their ability to provide a good value that the US public are willing to pay for every weekend.

Even if they import their products from sources outside of the US.

And at this point, I was thinking about the reason someone would write articles about Immigration and buying products not made in the US, such as the article linked above by MSNBC, and I came up with one reason and that is to keep our country divided.

To make you think about an enemy that does not exist.

The only enemy in all this is yourself. And concentrating on things that you have no control over.

If you were to focus on the value you provide instead of concentrating on trying to take away from the value that is already being provided, you would find your life change in profound ways. And maybe your business would flourish and become very valuable.

What do you think?
