It was a sad announcement on Monday when it was revealed that a well liked wrestler, Chris Benoit, had killed both his wife and son and then took his own life.
As a former fan of wrestling, I haven’t been out of the loop long enough not to have known who he was and he always seemed very intense with a good sense of humor. Apparently his wife was also involved in the wrestling industry and had filed for divorce from him several years back with concern for her well being.
Meredith Vieira had interviewed Vince McMahon about the incident and I couldn’t help but feel a little sorry for the WWE Chairman. Meredith was grilling him something fierce about steroids and trying to get Vince to take some sort of responsibility for this tragedy.
I almost felt like this was a disgusting tactic taken with this man during the interview.
He wasn’t on trial for this and I felt that she was all over him about the use of steroids and that this was the sole reason for what had happened over this weekend.
Granted the WWE had made a statement that steroids could not have been linked to this heinous act but my guess was that it was to counter the already flying accusations about steroids.
The interview also seemed to place blame on the big bad company that was making all the money for the obvious inability for Chris Benoit to handle his mental well being. It was his responsibility to handle his own mental well being, as it is yours and mine.
Is there a lot of pressure in the WWE for it’s employees to perform their jobs? I’m sure there is.
But whose job isn’t challenging anymore. You have to perform, but it’s not your companies responsibility to look after your mental well being.
I am finding that, it is very easy to go after the company that is making all the money, for the acts of the poor helpless workers who work for them.
Last I knew this was the United States of America, and we have choices we can make. And that includes where we work and who we work for. If your in sales you can also make as much money as you want and are capable of making.
If you save a portion of your pay week after week you can become a millionaire.
Wake up people, we are not helpless to the point that our companies have to blamed for our actions. We do have choices, no matter who you are.
Here’s to your LifetoSuccess,
John Clark
