Give me a break!
If it wasn’t for the media that Al Roker works for I would have never known what he said.
You have Jessie Jackson, who has called New York “Hieme Town”, a racial slur towards the Jewish community in New York on his soap box, after he was let off the hook with an apology.
Al Roker calling for his dismissal. Al Sharpton beating the drums.
In the 21st century when are we going to get past this.
When I was growing up my brother would pick on me about something I was very sensitive about and whenever he wanted to get me going he would start in on it and I would get so angry that my head would almost explode.
My mother, the wise lady she is, pulled me aside during one of these incidents and explained to me the only reason he did it was because he knew I would react to it.
So I stopped reacting to it and miraculously my brother stopped doing it.
The fact is when we pay attention to idiotic comments from people who don’t live by correct principles, we add fuel to the fire. And the comments keep happening and people keep reacting and its a vicious cycle that doesn’t end until the reaction to the comments stops.
In fact the only thing we have control over is our response to a situation. When we respond with the attitude that the other person should change, we miss the mark.
The other person will change when what they do no longer affects our attitude.
I’ll leave you with this final thought my mother told me, with the help of my brother. He would call me names that would bother me until again she pulled me aside one day and asked me if I was what my brother had called me…
I looked at her and said of course not.
And she said well be on your way, there’s no need to dwell on things your not!
In my studies since then I have come to the conclusion that the more we focus on something the bigger it gets. If we continue to focus on trying to get others to think or act in a different way and focus our attention on the undesired activity the more of the undesired activity we get.
It’s time to grow up and get over the name calling!
If there are people out there who need to call people names to get attention, take the attention away the name calling will stop.
