With the recent acquisition of YouTube by Google for $1.6 Billion, the importance of networks is certianly becoming apparent on the Internet. (Network meaning a gathering of people on the Internet.)
My Space was purchased last year for the same reason by New Corp.
With Google’s purchase of YouTube, they have just put themselves in competition with the cable companies. With the ability to deliver Pay Per view video over the Internet and the advant of media center PC’s that will be next to the TV’s in the near future, if I were Comcast or Charter Communications, I would be nervous.
Google has by far been the most progressive with Adwords and Adsense to serve up advertisements that are in line with the content of the web pages that people are surfing on.
My Space and News Corp should take a lesson from Google, they have pre-set up groups of liked minded people already set up but they are still serving up the dating ads that people are becoming blind to.
You would think that with todays technology that they could do a better job with this but so far My Space hasn’t figuered this out yet.
The Internet is changing fast and the days of static pages is soon becoming a thing of the past, with blogs, online Social Networking, and people having the ability to dial into like minded groups, we are going to see a huge change in the Internet and my guess is, pretty rapidly.
If you operate online, you better see these trends and put youself in position to capitilize on it.
